MUSIC

Exciting, fun and exhilarating. The music program at Fitzroy North Primary embraces creativity, participation, technology and fun. During classes, students are introduced to a huge range of concepts and genres to allow for as many different learning styles as possible.

Students are introduced to a range of instruments including keyboard, guitar, ukulele, djembe, xylophones, singing, percussion and drums. They create compositions using rhythmic notes on a stave and have regular performing opportunities including at assemblies, the school fete, talent show and open days.

There is a Prep concert, Grade 1-3 and a Grade 4-6 concert each year with singing, dancing and acting. Concerts are performed at the Darebin Arts Centre.

Upper primary use GarageBand to begin their music production journey with Grade 6s being one of the only (if not the only) primary school using Ableton Live in the state. Ableton is one of the premier audio production tools in the world used by many recording artists including Skrillex, Flume and Diplo to name a few.

The program is designed to empower the students with a belief in their ability to compose, perform and present to their peers and the wider school community.

There is a Grade 5 and Grade 6 rock band which students can also audition for.

ABC music also offers tuition on woodwind and brass for private and small group lessons. Students can also join the school concert band on a Friday morning. Contact James at https://www.abcmusicgroup.com.au/contact-us for more information on lessons.
