Physical Education
During Physical Education classes at Fitzroy North Primary school, we pride ourselves on developing skill-sets, conducting the right behaviours during major and minor games including sportsmanship, fairness, and respecting our opponents.
At the junior level we concentrate on developing fundamental motor skills and performing movements. This is also facilitated through the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP.) At the senior level, we look to execute those skills in major game play as well as combining strategies and tactics.
Our grade 5 and 6 students participate in both the summer and winter Interschool Sports competitions, as well as the district swimming, cross-country and athletics carnivals.
We have a real focus on giving our students the best possibilities to succeed, with this in mind, our school has consistently had students competing at regional and state levels in a variety of sports and competitions.
Other opportunities we provide for our students include:
Regular in school tournaments, including basketball and tchoukball tournaments. After the success of tchoukball at Fitzroy North Primary School, it has now become a permanent interschool sport amongst the district.
Running club occurs once a week before school, where students from grades 2-6 go down to Brunswick Street Oval before school and participate in a range of running exercises, running drills and focus on different running techniques.
We have Interschool swimming, cross-country and athletics carnivals, as well as a tabloid sports day for our junior school.
A Bike-Education program runs in term 4 with all our 4-6 students participating.
Traffic rules and regulations, bike riding skills, park and road rides are all part of the students pursuing excellence with their bike riding abilities.
Health is a very integral part of the curriculum and we cover health units across the school including, resilience, healthy diets and mind body and soul.
We promote an active, healthy lifestyle for our students in PE. With our strong links with the community and following our school values of kindness, respect and resilience, we aim to build a strong sporting culture. There are no limits during Physical Education, the sky is the limit!
