SUSTAINABILITY AT FNPS
Fitzroy North Primary School cares deeply about the environment and we are committed to becoming a more sustainable school for the better of our community and our planet.
We are registered with ResourceSmart Schools (RSS), an award-winning program led by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government, that assists schools to embed sustainability in everything they do.
Our Green Machine and Sustainability Superheroes
Our students have the chance to participate in a range of sustainability initiatives while demonstrating our values of KINDNESS, RESILIENCE and RESPECT.
Integrating sustainability into the curriculum through our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme of Inquiry provides our learners with the opportunity to learn in real-world settings. Keen and conscious FNPS students are at the heart of our sustainability efforts. Staff elect Year 5 and 6 students to be the leaders of our school’s Green Machine while students in Prep to Year 4 have the chance to become ‘Sustainability Superheroes’ throughout the year. Our Green Machine leaders are responsible for delivering sustainability news during assemblies, championing our Compost and Garden Club, auditing our school resources alongside our knowledgeable CERES representative and sharing our sustainability progress with the wider community!
RSS Sustainability Committee
Our school is reliant on the whole community to reduce our impact on the planet and uphold our sustainability vision and mission.
Parents or guardians willing to be advocates of this sustainability work are welcome to join our RSS Sustainability Committee. Our committee meets monthly to collaborate and implement sustainable practices and actions.
Together, with green thumbs and eco conscious minds, we are committed to a more sustainable future for FNPS and beyond.
